the trick to score an 'A'

Never seek to score an 'A'
'A' that is never sought can be
For every student ought to learn
Silently, invisibly.

I sought an 'A', I sought an 'A',
I sought it with all my heart,
Frustrated, upset and in fear-
Ah! I watched my 'A' depart!

Soon after it had eluded me
A cheery student came by
Silently, invisibly,
She got an 'A'- but why?

Willam Gweeke

Nice poem on the door of an Eng. Lit. Prof's office that caught my eye.

Rosenthal effect
The Pygmalion effect, Rosenthal effect, or more commonly known as the "teacher-expectancy effect" refers to situations in which students perform better than other students simply because they are expected to do so.

I think this is quite true, and that is why lousy students in a good school can also do well just because they are expected to do well. This kind of mentality instilled in them is sort of a subconscious motivation. An example would be James Seng's experience, you can take a look at that.

Anyway, my point is that you have to want to seek the A but do not be obsessed seeking it. If one doesn't seek the A, there's no drive and no motivation, and one won't do well. But of course being overtly obsessed with it is also counter productive.

(ya, the rosenthal effect has nothing to do with blogging, i think it would somewhat interest you a bit more now right? bleahz...)

erm..still not interested. :p
haha..and the poem is also trying to point out that stress is counterproductive.

Oh well, let's just interpret the poem in whatever ways we like. :)

OH! That effect! sounds like "self-fulfilling prophecy".
So if I want to seek an A, but I don't have the motivation to do it then how? =S
Argh, sick of formal studying!
